Scabbling/Planing are two different kinds of industrial floor preparation. Each has its own distinctive role, purpose and effect upon a floor.  Scabbling or Planing machines have a typically aggressive nature and therefore are not really suitable for coating preparation. Scabbling or Planing is utilised for both surface preparation and heavy duty planing work. It is the standard preparation technique for texturing concrete and asphalt or for removing paint, rusted material, grease, iced deposits, lined markings, and concrete laitance.

This floor preparation is the standard preparatory technique for texturing concrete and asphalt or for removing paint, rusted material, grease, iced deposits, lined markings, deeply encrusted coatings, latex, adhesives, former coatings and hi-spots, plus concrete laitance. It is also good for removing waterproof membranes from locations such as car parks and other hard standing areas. Scabbling is a destructive process and is ideal for preparing large areas prior to the application of screeds.

Scabbling or Planing is usually employed in conjunction with industrial vacuum machines to reduce or eliminate dust emission. However, where these machines come into their own is for fast removal of concrete to reduce floor levels. Tct cutters cut grooves in the substrate to provide a very heavy non-slip surface which also provides an ideal surface to apply epoxy and cementitious floor screeds.
